Murder at the Flamingo....

I am currently working hard on finishing Hamish and Reggie's second adventure: Murder in the City of Liberty...

And it seems very weird that it was a year ago around this same time that I was so nose deep in finishing up Flamingo. Since then, it has had quite the life: it went through intensive editing, it has been promoted---it found a glorious cover and brand--- and now it is on its way to you.

From my end, I know the book like the back of my hand. The characters just talk to me and I take their dictation. I love that part of the writing process and I think it is why I love writing series so much.

Today, in Murder in the City of Liberty, Hamish DeLuca (son of Jem Watts and Ray DeLuca from my Herringford and Watts series, if you wanted to make the connection), learns how to fire a gun from long-time family friend ( and wanna be beau to my lady detective Merinda Herringford, Jasper Forth). It put me in mind of the year before last (at the same time) when I was finishing the last (to date) book in that series, The White Feather Murders. Then, the year before that (again, just as summer crept in and obliterated (but just) the reminiscing of all of our horrible springy slush and ice) finishing edits on The Bachelor Girl's Guide to Murder. I have spent a lot of time with the fictional people I am encouraging you to meet. They have had a deep and indelibly thumbprint on my creative makeup but also my calendar years. It seemed fitting that I write this very first post on my new site dedicated to where I am now (same desk, same lamp) and what I am doing ( different era, same family) and I look forward to your meeting Hamish (and Reggie, of course) and digging into my brain for a bit.....
